Michael Farmer
I am currently a Cyber Security Analyst at a Louisville-based MSP.
Prior to my current role, I was a Tier-2 Support Team Technician. We were tasked with the weirder, unknown, and more specialized issues for our clients. I was often thrown to hard problems that required a willingness to learn and troubleshoot everything. I quickly became ‘uncomfortable with being comfortable’.
When I started I was a Tier-1 (Help Desk) Technician. One of the first lines of defense for our clients. Taking calls, fixing issues, and trying everything before providing a helpful escalation for issues out of my hands. This taught me the value of thinking on my feet, humility, and bringing a calming demeanor to our clients experiencing a bad day.
Currently my role keeps me humble and learning everyday. I strive to keep business’ and user data safe. My passion for technology encompasses my personal and professional life. Keeping up to date with current trends and tutoring my coworkers, friends, and family every opportunity I get.
I am an alumni of University of Louisville’s College of Business. I finished with dual Bachelor degrees in Web Development and Business Process Management. I am Criminal Justice Information Services certified with Level 4 Security Awareness.
What I have to offer are strong communicative skills that aid me in working with with a team and providing support to my peers. I have an analytical mindset and the keen ability to operate in stressful situations. My day to day consists of managing my organization’s security products, performing extensive review of client environments, and acting as a technical escalation for security incidents.
In my past experiences, I was the project manager and lead developer for my team’s Capstone Project while also building a prototype-website with CRUD capabilities for our university’s recreational center. During this project, I oversaw our team meetings (in person and remote), as well as heading up development and presentation to our client.
I worked for a semester at a local web development shop, MoDuet, as a Web Hosting Intern, where I assisted in building and maintaining websites for clients. During my time with MoDuet, I also created many marketing campaigns utilizing Facebook and Google ad-space both internal and for clients.
